Under 11’s and 13’s report by Chris Towler

This week the Cogenhoe youth setup put out an under 11’s and an under 13’s side as they faced St Crispins & Reylands and Northampton Saints respectively.

The U11’s travelled to St Crispins and started the game in fantastic style as Alex Towler took a magnificent diving catch of the bowling of Archie Ploughman inside the first over. Not long after that, the young off-spinner Alex had taken Cogenhoe’s second wicket. But St Crispins fought back to a net total of 296.

In reply Cogenhoe batted excellently and pulled the game back and in the end lost by the narrow deficit of 42 runs. Jack Buswell and Captain Joseph Barbara top-scored and Harvey Reynolds scored his first runs for the club. This combined with excellent defensive innings from Josh Barstow, Wicketkeeper Elliot Reynolds and debutant Fred Loveder and Cogenhoe posted a good net score of 254.

The U13’s made the trip to Northampton Saints and started the game in tremendous fashion, Captain Tom Robinson took 3 wickets in one over and took a marvellous slip catch off the bowling of Joseph Barbara as the Saints were reduced to 19-4 at one point in the game. The Saints middle-order batting then resisted until the 5th wicket partnership was broken by a catch from Umang Dave of the bowling of Kieran Davis. Alex Towler then chipped in with two wickets as The Saints scored 107-8 off their 20 overs. This could have been more but thanks to some terrific fielding in the deep from Matthew Wainwright and Chris Alvis. Tom Robinson with figures of 4-0-8-4.

Wicketkeeper Chris Towler scored 13 before hitting one to a fielder. Tom Robinson and Joseph Barbara both hit boundaries, but Cogenhoe struggled with the rule change from U11’s to U13’s cricket and scored 47 all out and lost by 60 runs.

Both games showed some excellent performances and left some room for improvement unfortunately our Cogenhoe U11’s game at Nether Heyford this week was abandoned due to rain. As there is no scheduled U13’s game this week, players from both age groups will play in an inter-club friendly this week instead.
