Cogenhoe Cricket Club manages a growing Junior Section, running teams at Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 age groups, in the FG Watts Northampton Youth Cricket League.
Under the stewardship of award winning level 2 coach Matt Morrissey, the Junior Section practices every Friday evening (6.30pm to 7.30pm) from May to the end of August at Compton Park, Cogenhoe. Winter nets are also held from at Northampton College.
The club boasts a small number of ECB Level 2 qualified coaches, ECB Level 1 coaches and Coach Support Workers. All are volunteers hoping to make the sessions fun, while teaching the children how to play the game.
The Junior Section has produced a number of future club players, including former Northants, Lancashire & England batsman, Mal Loye, former and current First team captain Gareth Goddard and stalwarts Chris Mason, Phil Whiteman, Jason Roberts, Dave Foley and current Chairman, Roy Quennell. Regular first team players, including Ryan Knight, Henry Swallow, Tom Smyth and Jack Quennell all came through our youth section and are now contributing to the success of the senior sides.
The club is committed to fast tracking talented youngsters into the Senior teams, with a number of the current crop such as Josh Bastow, Tom Robinson, Will Tipler, James Bushell and Alfie Wreford already making their mark on either the second team or the midweek side and making the future look very hopeful for our club.
