Cogenhoe Cricket Club manages a growing Junior Section including a thriving ‘All Stars Cricket’ programme aimed at children between 5-8 years old alongside an Under 9s and Under 17s side.
With an array of qualified coaches; All Stars and Under 9s practice takes place on a Tuesday evening between 6.30pm and 7.30pm (May to August) at the Cogenhoe Playing Fields. All Stars and the Under 9s is a fabulous introduction to cricket combining new skills with a fun and safe environment for the children to flourish in.
Under 17s play their matches on a Thursday evening - an excellent competitive pre-cursor to joining adult cricket thereafter.
The club boasts a number of ECB qualified coaches all with up-to-date safeguarding checks, training and first aid certificates. The safety and wellbeing of the children attending our sessions is paramount. All our volunteers hope to make the sessions fun, while teaching the children how to play the game.
The Junior Section has produced a number of future club players including former Northants, Lancashire & England batsman, Mal Loye, first team captains Dan McLaughlin, Gareth Goddard and Ryan Knight and stalwarts Chris Mason, Phil Whiteman, Jason Roberts, Dave Foley and former Chairman, Roy Quennell. Regular first team players, including Henry Swallow and Jack Quennell all came through our youth section and are now contributing to the success of the senior sides.
The club is committed to fast tracking talented youngsters into the Senior teams, with a number of the current crop such as Jake and Liam Morrissey, James and Alex Bushell and more recently Aiden Garratt and Mikey Smith already making their mark on the Senior squads and making the future look very hopeful for our club.
