Seconds claim first win of the season – by Allan Packer

The Cooks first home game of the campaign was the visit of  Overstone Fourths to Compton Park, though bright, the weather was cool and inhospitable unlike previous spring Saturdays. The fourths skipper won the toss and elected to bat on another belter of a wicket and the openers steadily compiled a half century partnership which was broken on the introduction of Ashley Davis bowling John Smorfitt for 38. Davis (4-45) continued in dangerous form and reduced the fourths to 103-5. After this mid innings collapse a stand of 57 between Ben Thomson (23) and Chris Bigley (38) saw the visitors reach 183-7 with Chris Mason taking 3-57 for the Cooks. In reply the Cooks soon lost both openers but a 50 stand between Dan Harris (28) and Adam Lee-Brown (26) steadied the ship. With storm clouds looming and a brief stoppage for rain the game was put beyond doubt by a dominant display of batting by skipper Jason Roberts (63 no) ably supported by Ashley Davis (18 no) who guided the Cooks to victory with almost 9 overs to spare in a game played in good spirit by both sides..
