League updates

As we enter into the business end of the season we still have much to play for .The first team suffered only their second defeat of the season away at Yelvertoft where only Liam 30, Piron 26 and Dan 24 got going with the bat. Our total of 139 all out was 30 or so short and despite Jason ‘s 3-28 Yelvertoft got home in the 43 rd over to leap frog us in the table with ourselves dropping down into third place. Our response was again excellent at home to Barton Seagrave. On another belting Compton Park track the hosts reached 202-8 , a respectable score but not enough on a lovely pitch like that and full credit to the effort put in by the bowlers even if our usually high standards in the field did slip a bit. Fletch 19 and Dan 71 got us off to a great start , Henry then fired a lovely 34 before the Knight brothers Liam 39 no and Ryan 25 no saw us home with9 overs to spare. Third place and promotion is in our own hands with Yelvertoft just in front of us and Obelisk behind in fourth so much to play for in August.

The seconds continue to impress with a victory over Brigstock II at Compton Park. Batting first Jason Roberts scored 77 and Teffers 47 as the Cooks reached 204-8. Tony Bird 4-18 and Adam Lee-Brown 2-19 then helped to restrict Brigstock to just 130-7 in reply. The roles were reversed on Saturday as Old II amassed 230-8 with Johnny Wootton 3-54 and Tony 2-32 among the wickets. The Cogenhoe reply centering around Jason who hit 107 out of a total of 152 with Adam the only other Cooks player to get into double figures. Jason’s ton was his 14 th in the league for Cogenhoe and that puts him level with Dan McLaughlin as the scorer of the most league centuries for the Cooks. Between them Jason and Dan have scored 28 of the 52 league centuries scored by Cogenhoe players since 1968.
