What a Weekend

Being the Chairman , I am naturally very proud of our little cricket club, its players, members, supporters everything to do with the club. We have good days and not so good but this weekend has been just fantastic with wins for the first team, seconds and our under 11’s.

I will start with the seconds and for good reason. The seconds dismissed Old II for 177 with Ashley Davis having bowling figures of 12-2-30-7. Ashley is just 14 years old and a leg spinner and if that is not impressive enough he was up at the ground before the game helping to get the pitch ready . He is a joy to have at our club, a village youngster who just wants to learn about the game and more importantly listen to advice given to him. Well done to you Ashley you are in some illustrious company with messers Dave Foley, Les Robjohns, Geoff Waldron, Peter Lee, Nick Lester and Barrie Woolston among those who have taken 7 in a league game for the Cooks.

As for the game itself a super run chase was led by Jason Roberts 56 no with valuable support from Russ Coleman 39, Matt Irons 27 and Liam Knight 24, but by all accounts everyone contributed in the field to help secure the win.

The first team also chased down a decent total after restricting Barton Seagrave to 198-8 . Gareth Goddard was the star with the ball taking 3-34 (and I doubt I will be writing that sentence very often) with Nick Lester also bagging 3 wickets. The run chase was led by Dan McLaughlin with 108 no this with a dodgy back, Dan’s ton including 19 fours and 3 sixes with Henry Swallow chipping in with a typically heavy hitting 29no as Cogenhoe reached 202-3 with 10 overs to spare.

The weekend was rounded off by our under 11’s with a victory over Northampton Saints with 2 wickets for Alex Towler.

So a great weekend and hopefully signs that this season will be a reasonably successful one. Well done to everyone involved
