KP returns for Seconds.

The Cooks welcomed to Heyford seconds to fortress Compton with a starting eleven contain four changes from the previous weeks victory. Keith Parsons a staunch regular of the seconds again donned his whites to boost numbers from the depleted squad of players.

For the second week running the Cooks skipper lost the toss which meant bowling first on a pale pristine track. Almost immediately Tony Bird was among the wickets, his second over containing wickets off consecutive balls. Heyford’s remaining opener then decided that attack was the best form of defence and the scoreboard started to rattle along with Tom Robinson suffering from this cavalier style of batting. The run gathering continued when the opener was joined by C.John who though soon needing a runner, ensured that by the time Heyford had lost the attacking opener caught smartly by Sid deep on the boundary, a recovery of sorts had been staged. After Tony had signed off his spell with a trio of wickets, the bowling mantle fell to the returning Sid Mason and left armer Frankie Perkin. Both bowled ecomically to ensure the total was kept to manageable proportions, leaving the Cooks to chase 175 a total that left this game definitely in the balance.

In reply the Cooks top four batsman struggled to assert themselves, against tight Heyford bowling, with no top order batsman reaching more than 20. Jason Roberts another making his Cooks début for 2015 then joined Frankie and slowly but surely Jason began to get the scoreboard rolling with Frankie content to provide a supporting role. Things began to turn sour when Jason picked up a leg injury that needed him to call for a runner, this injury greatly restricted his movement but not his run scoring. When the partnership had reached almost 60 Frankie was dismissed, to expose the longish tail. Jason continued to provide the Cogenhoe crowd with hope of a victory until a mix up between Jason’s runner (the skipper) and new batsman Josh allowed Heyford to claim the prized scalp of Jason for a defiant 44 which contained 8 delightful boundaries. The tide had now turned against the Cooks with the game tamely ending in the 42nd over.

This was a spirited display by the Cooks given the enforced changes to the team. The players coming into the side demonstrating their total commitment to the cause.
