Cooks again benefit from bowling first.

Burton Latimer won the toss at a sultry Compton Park and opted to bat first on a dry flat track. This season from week to week your correspondent seems to be reporting on the same game of cricket. The script runs as follows the seconds bowl first with the opening bowlers invariably Tony Bird and Tom Smyth ensuring the opposition struggle for runs and eventually succumb to the heady mixture of pace (Smyth) & guile (Bird) ensuring that the opposition are unable to post a defendable target. This fixture proved to be no exception.  Within 20 overs Smyth and Bird had taken out five Burton top order batsman for the paltry return of 35 runs. At this point Smyth was given a breather, but Bird continued the dismantling of the Burton innings, in the end gaining six wickets, with a controlled display of  intelligent seam bowling. With young  bowlers Adam Findley and Tom Robinson chipping in with a wicket each the Burton innings ended, with just 61 runs for the hosts to chase.

After a quick turnaround the Cooks soon lost a couple of wickets, but any doubts that such a small a small target could be achieved were dispelled by remaining opener Matt Golby and skipper Ryan Knight who both punished any loose ball to ensure the target was reached within 10 overs. Thus ensuring a maximum haul of 30 points were in the bag.

The Cooks again showed a liking to bowling first and their attack proved too strong for the Burton batters. In common with most games this season only a limited number of the Cooks batsman got any time in the middle, which may prove an handicap in future vital fixtures.
