Youth Report

After both teams were rained off last week, this week the U11’s travelled to the Northampton Saints and the U13’s played at Earls Barton in a friendly.

The U11’s won the toss and elected to field first. Cheap bowling from James Kempa got Cogenhoe off to a steady start and two wickets to Amy Kempa and one to stand-in captain Alex Towler helped to peg the Saints back. This combined with more cheap bowling from debutants Harvey Westall and Alfie Wreford ensured the the Northampton Saints were restricted to a net score of 247.

In reply Alfie Wreford lead the way with the bat and Alex Towler, Will Tipler and Harvey Westall all made runs but Cogenhoe finished slightly short of their target finishing with a net total of 210 losing by 37 runs.

The U13’s lost the toss and were made to field first. one early wicket each to Joe Barbara (4-1-15-1) and James Kempa (2-1-2-1) restricted Earls Barton to 17-2 after 9 overs. Cheap bowling from Ray Ahmed (2-0-7-0) and Alex Towler (2-0-8-0) prevented Earls Barton from getting away and Amy Kempa taking 3 wickets finishing with figures of 2-0-7-3. This combined with excellent wicketkeeping from Louis Hollebon on U13 debut meant that Earls Barton were held to a total of 89-5 from thier 18 overs

In Reply Cogenhoe got off to a slow start and despite valuable runs from Chris Alvis and Will Tipler (also on U13 debut) Cogenhoe fell to 9-6 after 9 overs. However an unbeaten partnership of 13 that lasted over 55 balls between Joe Barbara and Alex Towler ensured that the Cogenhoe U13’s are still to be bowled out this year. Both batsmen retired not out when the inning had finished to give James Kempa the chance to smash a boundary at the end of the match.

This week the U11’s have no fixture but the U13’s have another friendly, this time at Brixworth on Monday.
