Youth Report

This week the U11’s travelled to Great Houghton and unfortunately, the U13’s fixture at Brixworth was rained off.

The U11’s lost the toss and were put into bat. Captain Jack Buswell and Josh Bastow got the inning off to a solid start before Max Murrell and Archie Plowman put on a partnership of 19 from their 4 overs to take the net score to 230 of 8 overs. Alex Towler and James Kempa then finished off the inning well giving Cogenhoe a competitive net score of 257 from their 16 overs.

In reply Cogenhoe got an early run out but Great Houghton raced to a net score of 227 of 4 overs. Tight bowling from Alex Towler and James Kempa only gave away 4 runs in the second partnership leaving Great Houghton on a net score of 231 after 8 overs. A wicket to Josh Bastow ensured that Cogenhoe were still ahead going into the final partnership. But with the third pair putting on a net score of 29 it looked like Great Houghton were going to win the match.

However 3 wickets in 2 overs from Archie plowman (3–0-17-2) and James Kempa (3-1-5-1) left Great Houghton on a net total of 242 after 14 overs needing 16 net runs to win the game. That became 13 off 1 after a cheap over from Max Murrell. In the clutch Alex Towler (3-2-3-0) bowled an excellent over going for just 3 giving Cogenhoe the victory by 9 runs.

The U11’s will hope to get another victory against Horton House on Sunday whilst the U13’s host the Old Wellingburians on Monday.
