Tim Moulds memorial match report by Chris Towler

On Tuesday, Cogenhoe took on Holcot in the annual Tim Moulds Memorial Game. The match was played in great spirit and Cogenhoe ended up the victors, winning by 34 runs.

Batting first, the Cooks openers Paul Browning (15) and Mark Rapps (9) got Cogenhoe off to a decent start. But wickets began to fall and with the score on 43-4, a swashbuckling 26* from Henry Swallow supported well by young Chris Towler (16) helped Cogenhoe to get back on track and a late order 22* from Wayne Gardner allowed the Cooks to score 120-6 off 18 overs.

As Cogenhoe took the field for the defence of their total, Captain Gareth Goddard threw the new ball to Off-spinner Chris Towler. Thanks only to some utterly superb catching by Roy Quennell, Chris was able to dismiss both openers as Holcot fell to 5-2 inside the 3rd over. Some excellent cheap bowling from Adam Lee-Brown helped keep the pressure on and two wickets for Gareth Goddard and one to Ashley Davis saw Holcot slip to 30-5. The six wicket partnership then threatened to swing the game towards Holcot, but this partnership was broken by Paul Browning and with two late wickets from Paul Rapps, Holcot scored 86-9 leaving Cogenhoe the victors by 34 runs. This victory saw Cogenhoe win back the Tim Moulds Cup and go 3-2  up in the head to head games between the two sides.

The game ended with both teams visiting The White Heart pub in Holcot for a well deserved curry and a pint.

Our thanks as ever our thanks to the groundstaff at Holcot for allowing us to play on such a magnificent ground, to all the Holcot lads for the way the game was played and to the White Swan for the superb food and hospitality.
