If only !!!!!

A case of if only for the Cooks again over the weekend as the first team had to settle for a  winning draw whilst the seconds suffered yet another defeat without being outplayed.

Dan again lost a toss although in fairness he does not call at home games but his 2 out of 7 ratio makes you yearn for the return of PJ and his legendary toss calling skills. So once again we batted first and suffered the early loss of Dan. But Liam Knight with his second fifty in as many weeks (64) and Gareth 20 got the scoreboard ticking along although the wickets also fell at a decent pace without anyone else making a major contribution. In the end it was left to the opening bowling attack of Jason Kruger 42 no and Alex Harvey-Jones 15 no to guide Cogenhoe to maximum batting points and a decent total of 215-8 from their 45 overs.

Jason and Alex then did their usual stuff with the ball keeping it very tight Jason 13-1-36-3 and Alex 13-1-34-1 to keep Loddington in check. In the end Loddington were just a little short as they finished their allotted 45 overs on 205-6 , with Cogenhoe picking up a winning draw.

Over at Bugbrooke the seconds got off to a great start with a 65 opening partnership between Ryan Knight 33 and Russ Coleman 27 but the innings somewhat tailed off from there with only Gary Brough 18  getting a start. There was much to enjoy in the final over as the spring chickens of messers Bird, Parsons and Cox  scrambled 2 from the last ball to get an extra batting point. That was a costly last over as in an effort to get the total to 150 Tony pulled a muscle which meant he could not bowl or even field.

The 10 men Cooks gave it their best shot with Syd Mason and Reg taking 2 wickets apiece as the hosts got home in the 28 th over for the loss of 6 wickets.

The seconds find themselves in the bottom 3 of division 12 but their next two games are against their fellow strugglers and so they have an opportunity to get a couple of good results under their belts.

The first team are in a much healthier position in Division 7, they are in third place just 3 points off second with a game in hand in what is turning into a very close and tight race for the promotion spots.

So all you need to remember Dan is tails never fails…………….according to Mr Roberts
