Cooks make it 3 on the bounce

Cogenhoe made it 3 wins on the trot with a comprehensive win over Spencer. Skipper Dan McLaughlin won the toss and had no hesitation in asking the visitors to bat on a bright , sunny but very windy day at Compton Park. The Cooks opening attack of Jason Kruger and Alex Harvey-Jones were once again bowling with accuracy and pace restricting the Spencer batsmen to around 3 an over. Alex struck first clean bowling Mark Clare for 7. However it was the introduction of Gareth Tompkins and Nick Lester which saw a steady fall of Spencer wickets whilst still  keeping the runs down, indeed Nick excellent figures of 12-1-26-5 were even more impressive as he did not concede a single boundary. Gareth 3-58, Alex 1-17 and Jason 11-4-18-0 were backed up by some excellent Cogenhoe fielding with Wayne Gardner’s two excellent catches being eclipsed by a superb one handed diving catch by Liam Knight. In the end Spencer were restricted to 136-9 from their allotted 45 overs on a very decent batting surface with only Joe York 57 getting the measure of the Cooks attack.

The Cooks reply showed more maturity than the earlier season batting performances and with skipper Dan 79 no leading the way the Cooks got home with plenty to spare in the 27 th over for an eight wicket win.

A trip to table topping Oundle II’s next Saturday should provide us with a good test and an indication of where we are after a third of the season has gone. Confidence is high after a third successive victory and that should see next weeks clash as one to savour although the weather has put paid to our previous two fixtures between the two sides.

  1. Gardner was like a butterfly flying through the air to take his catch……….liams was merely OK!

  2. Gareth Goddard

Why was i born with such short arms!!!!!

Just not fair….i too could have taken a catch and felt loved!!!!!

  3. I also believe the one that came out of the sun……that we all lost sight of as it went so high…..was also a great catch! Im glad it was wayne under it……..Gareths arms are so short he wouldnt have been able to shield his eyes!

  4. I’ve looked through the “Rules of Cricket” Mr Goddard and it is clear to me you left a straight one. There’s even a picture of your dismissal in the book!

As for your short arms, well, thats why you catch so well with other parts of your anatomy…
