The Cooks travelled to Sharnbrook looking to continue their good form following on from their opening day defeat. Skipper Dan McLaughlin again lost the toss and Cogenhoe were soon in trouble at 16-2. But some sensible batting mixed with controlled aggression from Liam Knight 39 and brother Ryan 32 saw the visitors to 74. The Cooks continued to lose wickets at regular intervals but were also scoring runs thanks to Mark Bird 21 and Matt Morrissey 24. With Cogenhoe on 182-8 at the end of the 42nd over thoughts turned to the 18 runs needed to secure maxium batting points, enter Jason Kruger and 3 overs later Cogenhoe were walking off at 240-9. Jason scored 58 not out from just 14 scoring strokes which included 7 sixes, an incredible end to the innings and one that knocked the wind out of the Wellingborough sails, who up to that point had performed well in the field with young keeper Lewis Kain exceptional as was Amy Gauvrit with Kyle Awbery unlucky to suffer at the hands of Jason after a tidy opening spell.With Matt Morrissey pulling a muscle in being run out trying to give Jason the strike, scorer and chairman Roy Quennell as forced into fielding action much to the delight of those who recognised his somewhat outrageously priced value in the clubs fantasy cricket league.Wellingborough started well and at 78-1 were very nicely placed but fortune then favoured the Cooks as batsmen Panchel started to pull away from a stroke due to someone walking behind the bowlers arm only to then carry on and play a shot which was gratefully snapped up by Dan in the slips. The Cooks attack which was missing Alex Harvey-Jones,Gareth Tompkins and James Ashby then struck as Gareth Goddard took 2 wickets in an over to put the hosts on the back foot. Nick Lester with 10-3-29-4 was the pick of the Cooks attack with Dan, Gareth and Fletcher Callaghan all picking up 2 wickets apiece. In the field Matt “the crocodile” Golby snapped up 2 catches, Jason pulled off a smart catch at point whilst sub fielder and under valued fantasy cricketer Roy Quennell took a stunning catch in the covers, well stunning for a man of 50.Two wins on the bounce for the Cooks which was even more impressive considering the players unavailable but having said that it was a great team effort with everyone making a contribution.
