Season draws to a close

With second place and promotion guaranteed the Cooks first team ended the season with a home fixture against relegated Great Oakley II’s. Captain Gareth Goddard had the luxury of winning the toss and then asking the opposition what they would like to do, and they decided to put us in.  Gareth and Dan had put on 47 in 14 overs when Gareth fell to a quite magnificent one handed catch in the deep as the ball was racing to cow corner.  Adam Lee-Brown was next in as Gareth was looking to give him some valuable experience in the first team after his year in the seconds. At just 16 Adam showed a maturity beyond his years playing a patient and classy innings of 32. Around him Dan 46, Henry Swallow 40 and Ryan 19 blasted away with Teffers 22 at the end seeing Cogenhoe gain maximum batting points and finish on 212-7. Credit to Great Oakley who gave all a bowl to everyone.

Oakley’s reply was somewhat slow and the game seemed to be heading for a boring draw but as they reached the 150 mark with 10 overs left and 7 wickets remaining Oakley decided to go for it. Wickets and runs were exchanged at quite a pace  with the result of Oakley finishing up on 185-8 and a winning draw for Cogenhoe.

After the game we all enjoyed the hospitality of Dave Patrick up a the football club and many thanks to Dave and Joyce for that.

The season may have finished on the field but there is still much to do off it,but my congratulations to all the players and officials for once again representing our club and our village in such a fantastic fashion.
