The rain that was our friend last weekend turned into a traitor this as the first teams hopes of lifting the Division 8 title were washed away in two heavy 40 minute showers at Compton Park on Saturday. Over at Oundle the weather was more forgiving allowing the hosts to beat S & L Corby which gave them enough points to secure the title and our congratulations to them.
Our abandoned game was nicely poised as we were 157-8 with 4 overs left. Piron James with a classy 70 was the mainstay of the innings with Henry Swallows 26 as entertaining as ever. Our bowlers were keen to take on a County Hall side who had been bowled out for 52, 78 and 108 in their last three games. The only positive about Saturday being that Yelvertofts defeat secured the runners up spot for Cogenhoe.
Whilst the title would have been nice, getting back into Division 7 at the first time of asking is something we would have taken at the beginning of the season.
The seconds wrapped up their season with a trip to the division 12 champions Gumley and whilst like many before them suffered a defeat there was a sparkling 82 not out from Jason Roberts batting at number 8 to end the season with. With the club as a whole gaining new players all the time the seconds will be as strong next season and hopefully improve again.
Saturday sees the first team wrap up there season with Great Oakley visiting Compton Park and no doubt the seconds will be in attendance showing their support.
Well done to everyone for all your efforts this season on the field and off of it too.
