You win some , you lose some

The first team suffered their first loss of the season on July 3rd away at Bold Dragoon. After dismissing the hosts for 171 with Nick Lester 4-15 and Alex Harvey-Jones 3-25. Our reply never got going and ended on 98 with only Jason Kruger 33 having any success with the bat. The guys were disappointed with the result but their response on Saturday at home to United Social was spot on.

Batting first on a superbly prepared surface ( thank you Charlie & Pete ) Social after winning the toss and deciding to bat,  were restricted to 167-7 off their allotted 45 overs. A mention in dispatches to the bowlers Jason Kruger, Liam Knight , Nick Lester and the pick of them Alex 4-37. Their  accuracy  in sweltering conditions was backed up by some superb fielding. Dan McLaughlin 86 and a lovely 51 not out by Liam eased Cogenhoe to their target in just over 30 overs. The champagne moment of the day must be shared by Liam winning the game with a huge straight drive six and Jason’s final over dismissal which broke a stump in half. Next week the first team travel to Yelvertoft for a second versus third match and another tough game.

The seconds also won one and lost one. At home to Guilsborough Ashley Davis was again to the fore with a superb spell of leg spin bowling and figures of 4.1-2-17-5 as Guilsborough were dismissed for 78 with Tony Bird joining the party by taking 3-41. Fletcher Callaghan 27 no, Russ Coleman 2 and Matt Golby 19 no easing the Cooks to a comfortable victory.

No such luck on Saturday as a long afternoon in the field was made to feel even longer as Overstone IV’s amassed 292-5. The Cooks stuck to the task though with Jason Roberts 37 , Ashley 35 and Dan Harris 29 all contributing to a total of 186 all out.

We are now in the final half of the season and there is lots to play for. The spirit and confidence in both teams and the club in general is very high at the moment and long may it continue. Saturday evening we celebrated Fletch and Jason’s birthdays by trying to drink Northampton dry and my congratulations to those who gave that task their 100% effort. It was another good night.
