Tim Moulds Memorial Match

Last night Cogenhoe visited Holcot for the Tim Moulds Memorial match.

Tim was a much loved character on and off the field and he was a most generous supporter of Cogenhoe  and this annual fixture in his honour is a fitting tribute to him.

Gareth Goddard skippered a side of first and second teamers with Cogenhoe lining up as follows

Jason Kruger, Johnny Wootton, Dan McLaughlin, Ashley Davis, Ryan Knight, Mark Bird, Piron James, Charlie Bryant, Gareth Goddard, Andy Wootton and Roy Quennell.

The game is a 20 over match, with batsmen retiring when they reach 25 runs, this year the captains decided that everyone should bowl at least one over.

Batting first Holcot lost an early wicket but soon got into their stride, which saw a succession of retirements. A mention in dispatches for Johnny Wootton whose two wickets in two balls saw him on a hat-trick  and to Mark Bird with a miserly spell of 3 overs taking 1-10. Holcot setting a target of 144.

Cogenhoe’s reply saw both opener Jason and Johnny retiring at 25 with Jason reaching his total with 3 huge sixes. A steady fall of wickets along with Mark’s quick running between the wickets saw the game reach a last over with all to play for with 14 runs were needed off the final six balls . A two and a single were followed by two dismissals . The fifth ball saw Mark reach his 25 with two runs, leaving Jason to return to the crease needing 8 to win off one ball. Not even the might of Jason could muster that, although he did smash the final ball to the boundary for four.

A great game played in an excellent spirit and one Tim would have been proud of. Our thanks to Allan Packer and Pete Rose for umpiring , to everyone at Holcot for once again allowing us to play on their magnificent ground and to Albert Irons for organising the match.

Afterwards we all adjourned to the White Swan for some much needed refreshment and a superb buffet . I then handed back the cup to the Holcot skipper Matt Irons for him to keep for the next year. This was the fourth match between the two sides and the series is now level at 2 all, so all to play for next year.
