Another good weekend

Well done to everyone again this weekend with  two good performances.

The seconds were up against top of the table Gumley at Compton Park and were put in by the visitors. Russ Coleman was again in excellent nick with the bat and just like the week before fell agonizingly close to a maiden Cooks ton getting out on 90. Johnny Wootton chipped in with a stylish 27 as the seconds were bowled out for 173 in the final over of their allotted 45.

A spirited defence of that total saw Andy Wootton take 5-19 as Gumley got home to win by 4 wickets. But the seconds are in good spirits and are improving all the time especially in the field.

The first teams unbeaten start to the season continued with a 55 run win away at County Hall , a win which sees them move into second place with games in hand of those around them.

Batting first the Cooks were in trouble at 9-2 but Piron James 59* held the innings together as Jason Kruger 28, Gareth Goddard 25 and Henry Swallow 25 contributed to see Cogenhoe to 176-9 in their 45 overs. County Hall ‘s reply was soon in trouble as they slumped to 33-6 and despite a tail end surge they were eventually bowled out for 121 with Jason taking 3-10, Tony Bird 3-26, Gareth 2-1 and Nick 1-14. Ashley Davis took 2 catches one of which was a real skyer as too did Gareth and Dan McLaughlin.

So 5 wins on the trot for the first team their best ever in NCL cricket beating the four straight wins in 2004 when Little Harrowden ( twice ), Bugbrooke St Michaels II and Stony Stratford III were the victims. However there is still a way to go to equal the record of NINE straight wins  in win/lose/draw cricket which was achieved by the first team of 1978 who won their final nine fixtures of the season in section two of the Town League , this after losing four of their opening five games.

Half way there Gareth
