Should I go away more often ?

Without wishing to sound to full of myself there is nothing better than sitting in a nice restaurant on a warm summers evening 2 000 miles away from home having just enjoyed a god meal and a nice drop of wine, which is what I was doing for the past two weeks. But I can say that feeling of satisfaction is increased many fold when you get a text to say both teams won today. That happened on both weekends I was away in Cyprus and that wine tasted even sweeter , I can tell you.

The first teams impressive run chase at home to Yelvertoft started the ball rolling with Dan McLaughlin 71, Piron James 30* and Henry Swallow 27 seeing us to 214 for a two wicket win.

Then Obelisk  away saw Dan 51, Henry 40, James Ashby 31 and Paul Browning 25 as the boys topped 200 again in reaching 220-8. James then took 5-29 , Nick Lester 3-14 and Jason Kruger 2-42 to record a comfortable 109 run win.

The week previous to these two wins saw us dominate S&L Corby bowling them out for 84 with Jason 3-17 and Gareth Goddard 4-14 we notched up a seven wicket win.

Congratulations to all the first team boys who of the 5 matches played have won 4 and drew 1 and currently sit in third place in the table with games in hand of those above. Keep up the good work lads.

I must at this point pass comment on those quite remarkable figures of Gareth against S & L.  A previous disputed analysis of 3-11 against Guilsborough II is now consigned to the history books as that deceptive pace, swing, line and length finally gained its reward.

The seconds too have been climbing the division 12 table. Away at Burton Latimer IV the home side were restricted to 127-7 off their 45 overs with Andy Wootton 3-28 and Ashley Davis 3-58 among the wickets. Matt Golby 36 no , Ryan Knight 30 and Jason Roberts 25* guiding us home for a 6 wicket win. At home to Bugbrooke II on Saturday Russ Coleman scored his maiden Cooks half century with 91 and Ryan was back amongst the runs with 87 as we posted 230-3. Bugbrooke finished on 157-9 with Ashley taking 6-34 and Adam Lee-Brown 2-20 his first wickets for the club. I cannot begin to tell you how pleasing it is to win a game like that with village youngsters to the fore such as Ryan, Adam and Ashley. Especially Adam and Ash taking 8 wickets between them at a combined age of 30.

Well done to all concerned and lets keep it going, no complacency, no taking your foot of the pedal lets keep trying to win games and see where that gets us.
