A day to forget.

On a cloudy breezy day the Cooks visited the Buckinghamshire village of Emberton to take on Wollaston Thirds. Skipper Mark won the toss (third time lucky!) and chose to bowl on a greenish strip which looked likely to give the bowlers some assistance. The first 20 overs (77-3) went reasonably to plan with the three bowlers used (Tony, Sid & Mark) ensuring that the home batsmen were lured into many false shots which on another day would have meant better returns.

Despite grey skies the second half of the Wollaston innings completely changed the complexion of this game. The batsmen really tore into the Cooks attack, again being fortunate at times, especially their opener who passed three figures before being caught and bowled by the toiling James Goodwin. The opposing skipper then smashed a very swift fifty to ensure a challenging target of 260 was set.

After the break with rain definitely on the way, according to the internet sages  the Cogenhoe innings started in a very jittery fashion with both openers soon departing. With rain beginning to fall the Cooks wickets tumbled and the hosts only needed 20 overs to bring an end to the soggy proceedings.

This was a heavy defeat for the Cooks, which transpired were playing a Wollaston side being much stronger than when the teams met last term. The total made by the opposition on another day, could have been much smaller given greater good fortune for the Cooks, but when you are bowled out for less than fifty not many games will come your way.
