U13s kick off with a tough encounter
The Cooks U13s travelled to Duston to take on the perennially strong St Crispin’s Ryelands team under threat of a typical Bank Holiday Monday storm.
This will be an interesting season as a number of players move from U11 to U13 cricket and the fact that once you are dismissed as a batsman, that is it, no runs deducted!
Having not been at the match personally, some of the highlights included:-
- Club debuts for MacKenzie Eldershaw and Alex Bushell;
- U13 debuts for Spencer Smith, Sam Tipler, 8 year old Aidan Garratt, Anya Neal, 9 year old Liam Morrissey, Oliver Woolley and Keelan Hone;
- Alex Bushell scored a terrific 31no and having to retire at the requisite 30 runs;
- Two wickets in two balls from George Thompson;
- Two wickets for Liam Morrissey;
- Good catches by Sam Tipler, MacKenzie and Alex.
The fact that the Cooks U13s will consist of players between 8 and 13 means they will find themselves playing teams consisting of mainly 12 and 13 year olds who have played a fair amount of cricket through the junior ranks.
Most of our team will have no more than a handful of games worth of experience as individuals, but it will mean they face a steep learning curve. The good news is they all enjoyed the challenge and will improve rapidly as the season progresses, with one or two knocking on the door for the second team next season.
See you all at Bugbrooke next week!
