Cogenhoe CC are delighted to announce a new club sponsor Mr Iqubal Ladha who has very generously agreed to sponsor all our match balls at senior and junior levels for all our sides for the 2015 season.
The deal came about through conversations between our Chairman Roy Quennell and Iqubal who are work colleagues at London Midland. Their mutual love of the game and long conversations of the games great players and Roy`s love of his village club led Iqubal to ask if he could help the club in some way and at the same time pay tribute to his late brother Hanif who tragically lost his life in a car accident many years ago . Hanif was also a keen cricket fan and Iqubal thought it would be a fitting tribute to him. We at Cogenhoe are very humbled that Iqubal has felt our club is worthy of such a tribute and we are very honoured to be associated with a tribute that we know means a great deal to Iqubal and his family.
Our fixture cards for the 2015 season will contain underneath each sides fixtures the words
“In memory of our late brother Hanif Ladha”
At the end of the season the bowler who has the best bowling analysis will have that ball mounted on a plinth and engraved with that analysis along with a tribute to Hanif. Another award will also be made for our youth section.
Hanif Ladha
Iqubal is a huge cricket fan and has even appeared on one of the world biggest cricketing stages when he won a competition to appear at Edgbaston back in 2009.
Iqubal entered a competition in the Observer and won the chance to test his cricketing skills in a one off Last Man Stands Super Over during the interval of the third Investec Test match between England and the West Indies.
Phil Tufnell was on hand to give Iqubal some top tips.
Iqubal had to face 5 balls in front of thousands of cricket fans and scored 9 runs with Tufnell full of praise saying afterwards “Last Man Stands has provided a fantastic experience for Iqubal, to step out onto the pitch during a test match with a full crowd all getting behind him – and he even managed a boundary”
Iqubal said afterwards “Its been a brilliant day and I never thought a normal fan like myself would get the chance to play at Edgbaston” “It just goes to show that anyone can play and get involved with cricket and I hope many more people get involved through Last Man Stands”
Cogenhoe CC extends a warm welcome to Iqubal and would like thank him and his family for their generosity, support and for the honour of choosing our club in memory of Hanif.
