The season is finally underway and whilst the seconds have not had the greatest of starts there will not be many sides in division 12 who will take points from a good Loddington & Mawsley side and the fixture computers quirky nature saw us playing them home and away in the first two fixtures. Skipper Jason Roberts 43 in the first game was good to see but there were not a lot of positives to take from the second fixture which saw a 10 wicket defeat. At least we do not have to play them again.
The firsts kicked off their season with a great match at home to Bold Dragoon. Putting the visitors in, the Cooks bowling was very tight Jason Kruger 10-3-12-1, Alex Harvey-Jones 13-2-36-1 tied the batsmen down before the star of the show Nick Lester came on and took 7-52 from his 13 overs to see the visitors reach 155-9. Cogenhoe’s reply was steady and seemed well paced thanks to Dan McLaughlin 43, Fletcher Callaghan 39 and Piron James 22 but in the end some accurate bowling saw the Cooks just fall short ending on 153-5 and a winning draw. Full marks to both sides for a game played in excellent spirit.
The club has two new additions to report. Firstly this excellent new website brought to you by Jason and Keith Kruger of Kruger Net Marketing. I would like to place on record our thanks to them both and I am sure you will agree the site is very polished and professional. Jason’s work on the video on the home page is excellent and over the season he will add new videos to that part of the site. This blog, twitter and up to date scores, results and tables are also included and we hope everyone will join in to make this the best village cricket club site in Northamptonshire if not the country. The site was only launched on Saturday 1 st May but over the next couple of months more and more information and pages will be added so add it to your favourites and please let us know what you think.
We also have invested in new sight screens. The new traditional wooden screens were purchased due to our old screens not wintering very well. The league rules state we must have screens and so the committee decided to agree to purchase them.
We could only do this due to the prudent housekeeping of the club over the last few years and the continued generosity of our Vice Presidents and Sponsors.
With the season now underway fundraising is in full swing with lots of competitions and more importantly great prizes to win. My thanks to Nick Lester for once again organising the Fantasy cricket league, Mark Bird is selling a World Cup score predictions competition, Dave Patrick has been busy selling 250 numbers at a £1 a go to win a signed Saints shirt and a signed Saints Rugby ball . That draw will be made on May 8 th so if you have not got a ticket get in touch with Dave. Finally of course our 350 club tickets for the Summer draws are now available.
